On 28 April 2026, the Hubs4Circularity Community of Practice hosted a webinar on regional matchmaking, Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Digital Product Passports (DPP) for sophisticated waste valorization and upcycling.

The session brought together expertise from the THESEUS Hub4Circularity project, focusing on how regional data, digital tools and circularity frameworks can support industrial-urban symbiosis and strengthen regional resilience and sustainability.

The webinar featured two sessions:

Session 1: Regional Matchmaking, Regional Circular Economy (RCE)

Dr. Babis Manousiadis presented how regional aspects can be integrated into matchmaking digital tools. The session highlighted the importance of considering regional characteristics, resources, infrastructures, strategies and challenges when identifying circular economy and industrial-urban symbiosis opportunities. The THESEUS approach uses a “regional scenery” to support better prioritisation of synergies and regional impact.

Session 2: MFA & DPP for sophisticated waste valorization and upcycling

Dr. Lucyna Łękawska-Andrinopoulou presented how MFA and DPP are applied in THESEUS to support circular planning. While DPP contributes product-level information on composition, traceability and compliance, MFA helps map regional material flows, identify hotspots and support scenario-based decision-making. Together with matchmaking, these tools form a circularity framework that links product data, regional insights and practical action.
